Press Release

The exhibition space, rum46, invites you to a reception on the premises of rum46, Friday 21st January, 16:00, to mark new works in the public space.

With the poster Education-poster by Cecilia Wendt (S) & Rikke Luther (DK), the video installation Even Hermits Need A Group Of Persons To Be Isolated From by Brett Bloom/Temporary Services (US) and the action A Metamorphosis by Section8 (US), one will experience works which span from formalistic aesthetic to declarative street art. The works form part of the art project Solidarity UNLIMITED? and set the scene for debate on liberty, equality and fraternity.

These works embody a public art practice which puts problematic societal matters on the line via the use of (amongst others) mass media commercial codes and the given communication channels in an urban context. The artists all work with site-specific projects which not only deal with the identity of a particular site, but also factors such as social, political and economic processes which are used to influence and control urban life and the public space.

Brett Bloom & Temporary Services (U.S:/Chicago): The video installation Even Hermits Need A Group Of Persons To Be Isolated From consists of hundreds of pieced-together pictures that show people and the way they group themselves. The work places focus on how people exclude and include each other, and how this has an influence on the construction of identity and individuality. The video work will be installed in the urban space where people come and go (for example, railway station, shopping centre, pedestrianised street).

In connection with the reception, Brett Bloom will present his works and the project for Solidarity UNLIMITED? In addition, he will be holding a book reception on Belltown Paradise / Making Their Own Plans.

Section8 (U.S./ L.A.): A Metamorphosis is the title of an art action which uses consumer society as a starting point and will reflect on the position of Denmark within the MARKET - both social as well as cultural. The action will be carried out at an unspecified time during week 3. It will be documented and rum46 will be given an example for presentation.

Cecilia Wendt (S) & Rikke Luther (DK): Education-poster [Collecting System] is a poster project which discusses the access to unused materials and the various forms of economic systems it produces. The poster contains elements which refer to activities concerning art and education. The poster will be found in the Århus city area.

All are welcome to attend the reception Friday 21st January 16.00 hrs in rum46, Studsgade 46, Århus C.

Ytringsrummet/Space for Remarks and Comments is in week 3 open Thur - Sun 11-16
